The purpose of this investment is to provide additional business support (information, diagnosis and brokerage services) to ambitious small and medium enterprises in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Accessed through Business Link, this in depth specialist service aims to provide expert support to over 2700 small to medium businesses over the next 2 years.

What?

Businesses and social enterprises will be given a flexible package of support, tailored specifically to their needs. Increasing productivity and competitiveness on a national and international level are the primary objectives with the ultimate aim of helping to increase the economic prosperity of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The service will specifically target businesses which have a high GVA (Gross Value Added) per head, or the potential for high GVA per head.

Who?

Serco Regional Services Ltd are the applicant for this investment and Business Link will run the service, working in partnership with a number of key organisations throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

How much?

£4,606,766 from the ERDF Convergence Programme will be invested.

Equality and Diversity

This project will provide a service that extends away from traditional marketing routes, to reach out to businesses led by under-represented and disadvantaged groups, or to entrepreneurs from such groups.  Ensuring that Business Link advice and guidance is delivered in a fully accessible manner relevant to the needs of the customers.

Environment

This package of business support includes two Environmental Advisers who will provide in-depth specialist advice to help businesses reduce energy waste, raw material waste and water use.

1000 businesses are to be provided with awareness raising and information on environmental issues, including adapting to climate change, waste and resource efficiency and best practice.

Specialist knowledge from centres of expertise will be drawn upon and it is planned that £50,000 of additional knowledge on environmental matters will be procured per year.

Specialist events will be held, focussing on key change points (start up, accessing new markets, developing new products etc) and will have a specific environmental focus.

Online advisers provide support which includes assisting businesses with their environmental needs.

Development vouchers may also be available to address environmental issues.
