Cornwall Works 50+ Cares (Cornwall Council)

Addressing the challenges presented by population ageing, Cornwall Works 50+ Cares will seek ways to meet Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’s future care needs by upskilling the Care workforce and developing the skills needed to care for ageing population in the long term.

In particular, Cornwall Works 50+ Cares will look at ways to retain the skills and expertise of older workers in the Care sector.

The project aims to work with employers, through Cornwall Works, to:

  • ensure career progression routes are available for new employees,
  • encouraging them to stay in the Care Sector,
  • explore ways of providing support at an early stage for older workers under threat of redundancy
  • look at ways of enhancing training provision for employees
  • encourage employers to provide support for older workers who have recently returned to employment

Cornwall Council will work with Designs of The Time (DOTT), a Design Council initiative, which will engage with key stakeholders in the employment arena and local people to identify the issues that affect communities in relation to population ageing and employment.  In response to their findings they will develop innovative solutions which can be piloted through Cornwall Works 50+ Cares.

Cornwall Works 50+ Cares is one of three transnational initiatives within the Convergence Programmes, the other two being Cornwall Works 50+ and Skills for Climate Change.  Working with partners in parts of France and Finland which face similar challenges to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly due to demographic change and rurality, Cornwall Works 50+ Cares will share best practice.

Cornwall Works 50+ Cares contributes to the overarching Ready for Work Strategy for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, known as Cornwall Works.  Further details can be found through the links below:
