Globalisation (Serco Regional Services Ltd)

The Globalisation Project aims to support a step change in the international performance of companies in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and in parallel, attract international investment to support the area′s economic development.

The target of the three-year project, which will be run by Peninsula Enterprise, is to support 193 businesses with high growth potential in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to trade internationally. It will also be targetted at encouraging foreign business investment in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The project will receive £1,545,652 from the ERDF Convergence Programme with the remaining match funding coming from United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) which works with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets.

Support for businesses is offered in the form of:

  • Business Development Vouchers - up to £7,500 a year.
  • Support and aftercare for businesses involved in networks and clusters, with particular focus on renewable energy and environmental technologies.
  • Support for businesses to form joint ventures, partnerships and alliances to import and export good practice from national and international experience.
  • Offering a strategic overseas marketing and communications plan.

Equality and Diversity

This investment will project an image of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as part of the wider South West as a diverse region and combat any stereotypical views of the region.  It will develop an awareness of cultural sensitivity working with other countries.  This includes diversity training for marketing professionals and related staff.  The investment will be working in partnership to reach under-represented groups.

Environment

The operational impacts of business support delivery will be monitored and processes will be put in place minimise them.  In the delivery of the project the need to travel will be questioned with increased use of video conferencing and web linked manufacturing sites.  The development of Environmental Goods and Services will be incentivised, along with a greater focus on the development of investment around the development of a lower carbon economy and environmental awareness.
