"Because of the success of Unlocking Cornish Potential there is already high demand for this project among businesses. We will be offering a variety of tailored packages to businesses with a clear desire to grow.  And we will not be working in isolation. We will work with all of our Higher Education Partners including Business Link who will be able to offer the businesses a complete package of support."Allyson Glover, Head of Graduate Placements, Unlocking Cornish Potential
"Unlocking Cornish Potential was our first successful marriage of graduate placements and small businesses in Cornwall. It was successful in improving a business's profitability through managed graduate placement and access to expertise and universities. The European Social Fund Convergence Graduate Placement project will focus on those businesses with growth potential to help us achieve a step change in the Cornish economy. This will be one of the most effective knowledge transfer investments of the ESF Programme."Carleen Kelemen, Director, Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Cross cutting themes

The UCP project has successfully developed and implemented a comprehensive project specific Equal Opportunities Policy (EOP) based on the Cornwall College Group EOP, which recognises the provision of current State and Case law and adheres to the codes of practice issued by the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Commission for Racial Equality and the Employment Service. In compliance with employment law, all graduate placement vacancies will be openly advertised, initially on the UCP and Grad SW websites, and once available via the Jobshop/Portal.

This investment will address the environmental cross-cutting theme by ensuring all training activity is delivered in such a way that is consistent with the UK Sustainable Development Strategy, ensuring good practice in delivery in keeping with the objectives of the UK Sustainable Procurement Action Plan. Best practice will be embedded within the programme through appropriate curriculum, delivery models, partner/policy processes; and shared openly across the partnership though the Management and Executive Groups.

One of the six Business Development Managers will focus on Environmental Technologies businesses, helping to grow this sector.
