Porthmellon Industrial Estate Road, Isles of Scilly

The replacement of the Porthmellon Industrial Estate Road with a new concrete road will allow traffic to flow freely through the estate and avoid disruption. New ducting for broadband and electricity will also be installed, as well as new signage throughout the estate, including a large new entrance sign with directions and business names.

The project consists of the development of a new 221m road on the Porthmellon Industrial Estate, St Mary’s Isles of Scilly.

St Mary’s has one industrial estate located on the edge of Hugh Town at Porthmellon. This estate comprises a diverse mix of businesses. The estate infrastructure is in need of significant regeneration to improve the functionality of the area to allow those businesses based at Porthmellon to trade to their potential.

The Council of the Isles of Scilly, as the owner of the site, in consultation with all the businesses on the site have identified the improvement of the Road and signage as a priority for the site. These works will also allow for the installation of ducting for the Next Generation Access (NGA) Broadband into the site.

The benefits of the project primarily affect 32 units on the estate which are occupied by approximately 25 businesses ranging from steel fabrication to arts and crafts units.
