Porthmeor Studios to be saved
The building is dual use, with the cellar occupied by fishermen, reflecting the buildings previous use solely as a pilchard cellar and as a net loft. At present the building is in extremely poor condition and is in danger of falling into disuse.
The refurbishment will enable better use of existing employment space as well as the provision of an extra five studios. The investment will facilitate educational activities for local schools, aspiring artists and for CUC (Combined Universities in Cornwall) undergraduate activities and graduate residencies to take place. In addition the provision of improved access will enable tourists and arts enthusiasts to appreciate and tour the building to see it in operation.
