The Elms (Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change)

The Elms will be a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Hub for Cornwall.  Located in Redruth, the purchase and renovation of the building will bring back into use 450mē of floor space for voluntary and community sector organisations, grassroots community groups and social enterprises.

The investment aims to support the growth of the voluntary and community sector in Cornwall by giving security of tenure to Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change, Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum and other delivery agents.  It will also create a community resource to support the most disadvantaged in the area to gain skills and create employment opportunities.

This will provide:

  • Office space
  • A voluntary and community sector hub for knowledge exchange and shared facilities and services
  • A social enterprise and self employment facility
  • Services for individuals and community groups including: information, advice and guidance; learning from skills for life to degrees; pathways to employment and community development activities for all ages.

The project will bring back into use a redundant building adjacent to Redruth town centre.  Refurbishment rather than the construction of a new building will help minimise waste and materials will be re-used where feasible.  The renovation is planned to maximise natural energy sources and to incorporate devices such as solar panels, insulation, secondary glazing and a new efficient heating system to improve sustainability.
