Truro to Falmouth branch line launch
What?
The investment is expected to improve the existing train service and provide extra capacity to meet growing travel demands as a result of new development initiatives planned for the area. Furthermore it is hoped that the scheme will help ease growing vehicle congestion on the A39 link road.
"As a 'Community Rail' designated link, the Truro to Falmouth rail improvement scheme presents an opportunity to demonstrate sustainable transport which can support economic development initiatives, improve access to key services and ensure that environmental objectives are met in addition to wider social and economic aims" Cornwall County Councils Executive Member for the Economy Andrew Mitchell (Lib Dem)
Who?
Key partners in this investment are Cornwall County Council (the applicant) and Network Rail who own and operate the rail infrastructure.
How much?
ERDF Convergence will contribute £4,668,000 to an overall investment of £7,780,000.
"The increased capacity of this important commuter link will hopefully encourage more businesses to engage with CUC facilities in both Penryn and Truro. The greater frequency of service will also provide flexible access to full and part time employment and education opportunities in Falmouth, Penryn and Truro" Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Partnership Office
