Prepare yourself for Success!

In celebration of International Women’s Day and the ESF Convergence funded Empowering Smart Women programme, Truro and Penwith College are hosting a one day conference on Monday 8th March entitled: ‘Commanding Confidence: Prepare yourself for Success!’  The conference will allow the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to develop their confidence through a day featuring inspirational guest speakers and skill boosting workshops.

Opening the event is special guest speaker Steve Miller, Motivational Guru and Self Esteem Coach, as seen on BBC Breakfast, Sky 1 and GMTV. Steve is renowned for his straight talking style and no nonsense approach as seen Sky 1’s Fat Families. Steve works with top businesses across the UK including Tesco, Dixons, and Price Waterhouse Coopers. Steve’s essential advice will help delegates boost their confidence and self esteem through activities running throughout the day.

The Truro and Penwith College conference will include a range of workshops to help those looking to enhance their management skills or starting their own business. Workshops are available in the areas of creating a winning enterprise, marketing you and your business, delegation, empowerment, time management and productivity. A range of business support services will be exhibiting at the conference to highlight the support available to women in Cornwall. The event will also provide networking opportunities for local businesses.

Carleen Kelemen, Patron of Empowering Smart Women and Director of the Convergence Partnership Office, said: “International Women’s Day celebrates women’s talents and contributions around the world. In Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Convergence investment is being used to maximise the talents of women to develop their potential either in their chosen professional careers,  into business or in growing their businesses. Empowering Smart Women is a  project  aimed at giving women access to these opportunities which will  add value to the Cornish economy on a local and global stage.”

The event will enable delegates to hear inspirational achievements of business women from the area. These include of Kite Surfing Champion and former Gladiator Andreya Bennett a world record holder, Emma Stratton founder of the Scarlet Hotel and Beduthan Steps, one the first hotels in Cornwall to obtain a Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, Anne Carlisle, Rector and Principal of University College Falmouth, and established artist, writer, broadcaster and academic.

The conference is open to everyone and is taking place at the Headland Hotel in Newquay. Registration for the conference is £25 for members of the Empowering Smart Women programme and £50 for non members and can be completed online at: http://www.trurocollege.ac.uk/empoweringsmartwomen.
