South West ESF Awards

18.03.10

Awards recognising excellence in employment and skills activity across the whole of the South West from the ESF Convergence and Competitiveness programmes take place at The Rougemont Thistle Hotel in Exeter from 2pm on Thursday March 18th.

Jim Knight, Minister of State for the South West and Minister of State for the Department of Work and Pensions, was keynote speaker at the 2010 South West European Social Fund (ESF) Awards ceremony.

He said: "Congratulations to all of the South West ESF Award winners. The quality of all the nominations was outstanding. Today’s winners are all great examples of how ESF funds are helping people in the South West. As a Government, we are determined to provide help and support to unemployed people who have not worked for a long time, to get them back into employment and to help up-skill those already in work.”

Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “Congratulations to all winners. These individuals and organisations are demonstrating the value of training and support – both in helping to strengthen our economy and, importantly, for personal development and confidence.

The awards recognise excellence in employment and skills activity across the whole of the South West from the ESF Convergence and Competitiveness programmes. They included Young Achiever; Personal Achievement, Employment and Skills; Personal Contribution; Workforce Development; Employer of the Year and personal Contribution.

Carolyn Webster, European Programmes Manager, Jobcentre Plus, Devon and Cornwall District, won the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Jon Bright, Regional Director of Government Office for the South West said on opening the event

“These awards are giving us an opportunity to celebrate the people and organisations that are making a positive difference to thousands of people in our region.”

The South West ESF Awards were organised by Government Office for the South West (GOSW) with support from the Regional Employment and Skills Partnership, Jobcentre Plus, the Learning and Skills Council and the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
